What is Taekwon-Do
Taekwon-Do, the art of hands and feet is the Korean version of unarmed combat designed for the purpose of self-defense. It is the scientific use of the body in the method of self-defense through intensive physical and mental training.
It has no equal in power or technique. Even though it is a martial art emphasizing self-defense, moral education and culture are the mortar of the art.
History:
Taekwon-Do was founded in 1955 by Gen. Choi Hong Hi 9th Dan. Until nowadays, Gen Choi is still the president of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), and travels the world to make sure that proper technique is taught. He teaches frequently 8 hours a day.
Principles:
Taekwon-Do Philosophy is based on what are known as the tenets of Taekwon-Do
Courtesy:
Integrity
Perseverence
Self Control
Indomitable spirit
But also each Taekwon-Do practitionner must follow an oath that links that are the guideline of rules in life
I shall observe the tenets of Taekwon-Do
I shall respect my instructors and seniors
I shall never misuse Taekwon-Do
I shall become a chmapion of freedom and justice
I shall help to build a more peaceful world
Techniques:
Taekwon-Do is divided in 3 parts:
- Fundamental exercices: | Those are the foundations of Taekwon-Do. They are alphabet | ||||||
- Forms (Tuls): | The words of Taekwon-Do. They are imaginary combats against one or many, armed or unarmed, opponents | ||||||
- Sparrings (Matsogi): | The sentences of Taekwon-Do. They are divided in 3 different categories. | ||||||

Competition:
Taekwon-Do system of competition is very varied and exciting to watch. Competition is divided in 4 different areas:

Power breaking |
Special technique breaking |
All these areas of competition are divided in individual and team events.
